The Work is Spun, the Process is Spinning
RONGWRONG invited curator Rieke Vos for an exhibition by Jay Tan
19 February - 6 March 2011

Jay Tan shapes structures and installations by employing domestic, hobbyist materials and techniques, such as salt-dough and kitchen wire. She investigates what she calls ‘pottering about’: an active form of leisure but also a complex methodology.
While our economy forces us in a constant mode of production, our daily lives centre around intangible data, downloads and bits. Tan’s work investigates the nature of these apparently controversial behaviours where cake baking and high finance are dialectically confronted.

Jay Tan is a young British artist. She graduated from the Piet Zwart Institute in 2010 and lives and works in Rotterdam.
Rieke Vos holds a master of History of Art and currently participates in de Appel Curatorial Programme in Amsterdam.
