An evening performative event involving rebus-solving and an iconographical analysis of Tombola'a imagery, while playing it.
A rarely used word, "enigmatography" is the art of composing or solving enigmas, game-words and puns.
Entering the realm of enigmistics may be an arduous task for a non-initiated player, as those games do not only aim at entertainment - as cards, puzzles or role-plays might do - but require a mental approach that defies philosophical categories.
The art of rebus-making, inherited from hieroglyphs to heraldic, has been refined by a century-long italian tradition of "enigmistica". Those compositions, using a mix of letters and pictures representing words or sounds to be deciphered, challenge intuition and visual thinking, entering a world where phonetics, clichés and linguistics come together. The world of language and the natural world intermingle, alluding to a pre-linguistic state.
